FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is a single-player, turn-based RPG launching on 22 October 2026, with a 23 October Steam date listed by Square Enix in Asia. The safest starting point is the free first-chapter demo: it lets you test the combat before choosing a platform and edition. Nintendo buyers should decide carefully, because saves cannot move between the separate Switch and Switch 2 versions.

The main release date is 22 October, but a date alone does not tell every player when access begins. The US PlayStation Store lists 22 October at 04:00 UTC, equivalent to midnight EDT or 9 pm PDT on 21 October. The UK PlayStation Store lists 21 October at 23:00 UTC, which is midnight BST on 22 October. Those are regional PlayStation listings, not a universal unlock for every platform.
Steam’s English listing says 22 October, and its current store data schedules 16:00 UTC that day: 9 am PDT, noon EDT, 5 pm BST and 1 am JST on 23 October. That timing explains the 23 October Steam date in Square Enix’s Asia announcement. Check your account’s countdown before planning around this scheduled time, because release information can change. “Coming soon” means the game has not unlocked, not that you have early access.

Standard is the sensible default unless you specifically want those extras. Deluxe does not advertise an additional campaign or earlier access, and its contents are also sold separately. Compare the upgrade price before buying twice. The UK price difference is real: a Steam price should not be presented as the price for every console. Check Nintendo’s selected version and local checkout separately rather than assuming these prices apply there.
Square Enix publishes the game; Steam credits Square Enix and LANCARSE as developers. The publisher describes it as a rebuilt version of the first story arc of FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS. Rain, Lasswell and Fina’s adventure becomes an HD-2D console and PC RPG, with crystals, airships and familiar creatures throughout. That background matters if you expect a completely unrelated new setting: this is a new presentation of an existing story, rather than a new numbered FINAL FANTASY.
Combat uses turn-based commands and a visible action timeline. Staggering an enemy can stop its next action and weaken its defence, so timing matters alongside damage. Visions provide abilities; learned skills can remain available when you change the equipped Vision, within a cost limit. That gives party-building a practical purpose beyond recognising returning characters. There is no advertised multiplayer or co-op mode.
The announced side activities include the Colosseum, Chamber of Arms, Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon. Square Enix has also shown Sephiroth as an optional challenge. These are reasons to look beyond the main quest, but a list of bosses cannot establish how long the game lasts or how well its difficulty holds up. No completion-time estimate is promised here.

No paid early-access window is advertised for either digital edition. The free demo covers the first chapter and supports save carryover to the full game; some level restrictions apply. Use the demo for the version you intend to buy, rather than assuming progress transfers between different platforms. It is a useful way to judge the opening, not evidence that the whole campaign runs equally well.
The pre-order reward is the Magitek Airship & Squire Starter Pack, which combines an airship appearance with starter equipment and supplies. The separate Squire Kickstart Pack is an early-purchase bonus containing a gil-boosting cuirass and an ether. Buying after release can still qualify for the latter, but not the pre-order-only pack. These are different offers with different cutoffs.
Steam’s early-purchase deadline is 6 November 2026 at 8:59 am Pacific Time. The US Nintendo page says 5 November at 11:59 pm PST; Xbox states 5 November at 11:59 pm local time. Do not apply Steam’s later deadline to a console purchase. Bonus items are collected from the postbox outside the inn in Mitra after enough story progress, rather than appearing immediately at the opening.
Do not budget as though a subscription includes the game. Xbox lists cloud play with Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate but explicitly says a game purchase is required. That is distinct from inclusion in the Game Pass catalogue. No PlayStation Plus catalogue inclusion is confirmed in the checked launch material. Nintendo’s Save Data Cloud label is a membership feature, not an offer of the game itself.
A universal preload schedule has not been verified. Check your platform library for a download option instead of assuming the demo is a preload. Steam requires 15 GB of free storage; that is not a confirmed download size. Nintendo estimates 8.8 GB for Switch and 12.7 GB for Switch 2, and warns that pre-order sizes may change. PS5 and Xbox download sizes remain unconfirmed here.
These are the publisher’s listed targets, not measured results. Steam discloses Denuvo Anti-tamper and a third-party EULA. Its requirements do not separately list TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot as game-specific conditions; do not borrow requirements from another launch. Windows 11 is the stated operating system. The pixel-art style alone is not a reason to assume an older PC or handheld will run it well.

Confirm the platform, account region, supported languages and exact edition on the final product page. PC buyers should distinguish Steam from the Microsoft Store version. The Xbox listing carries the Xbox Play Anywhere badge; a Steam purchase should not be assumed to grant that entitlement. Use the correct platform account for the purchase and demo, and check the store’s refund conditions before downloading or launching.
Nintendo sells separate Switch and Switch 2 versions. Switch 2 software will not run on an original Switch, and saves cannot transfer between versions. Decide which release you will keep playing before committing time.
For someone who wants a single-player, turn-based RPG and enjoys the demo, Standard offers the clearest value. The extra money for Deluxe is easier to justify if the specific Limit Burst or magitek appearance matters to you, not because the label sounds more complete. Starter items alone are a weak reason to rush a decision, especially when the free chapter lets you test your interest first.
This guide is based on official pre-release information, not hands-on review. The full story’s quality, later balance, performance across every platform and any launch-day activation or download problems remain untested here. Wait for technical testing if frame rate or handheld performance is decisive, and wait for reviews if you need reassurance about the full campaign. Screenshots and advertised PC targets cannot answer those questions.
