What Dual Fusion adds

Mega Mewtwo X ex combines Psychic and Fighting types; Mega Greninja ex combines Water and Darkness. Both introduce dual-type Pokémon.

Try decks before chasing cards

The October producer letter plans unlimited rental-deck uses and versus battles in the new series. These are announced future rules, not a description of how rentals work today. Community Decks will let players browse other players’ lists and copy them using cards they own. That is a useful distinction: copying a list is not a promise that missing cards are added to your collection.

Six Dual Fusion rental decks run from launch until December 15, 5:59 p.m. PST. New rentals replace them when the next booster arrives.

Start by testing an unfamiliar deck rather than trying to collect every illustrated card immediately. Notice which attacks you actually use, what slows the deck down and whether you enjoy its decisions. A short list of cards you genuinely want is more useful than a shopping plan based on a trailer.

A slower booster cycle is planned

The producers intend to move from roughly four-week booster releases to roughly six-week cycles, with more events and missions between packs. The letter also describes collection missions that award immersive cards, and limited battles that restrict eligible cards. These are development plans; the letter explicitly allows the contents and timing to change.

Special Pack: First Partners uses separate special pack stamina that recovers weekly. Do not assume the normal booster timer measures when that special pack can be opened. Check the pack name and its own stamina display before using an item.

Choose the pack, not just the artwork

The official collecting guide explains that different booster designs within an expansion can have different card pools. Open the offering-rates information on the pack-selection screen to check which cards are included. A character on promotional artwork is not enough to establish which pack contains the version you want.

Normal pack stamina recovers over time, and hourglasses or Poké Gold can shorten the wait. Wonder Pick uses its own stamina and can show a card you already own. Review the selection and missing-card markers before committing resources; the new expansion is not a reason to ignore those existing checks.

ℹ️
Old pack points do not expire
Pokémon Support says pack points remain available for exchange even after a booster pack’s availability period ends. Do not spend them just because you think a launch automatically deletes the balance.

The gameplay FAQ ties pack points to the expansion whose packs you opened. An older balance is not a general-purpose budget for every new expansion. Check the exchange screen for the expansion you intend to complete.

Pikachu rewards are already available

The Pika Pika! Pikachu missions began on October 20, 2026. Logging in on any 10 days during the event earns a special immersive Pikachu ex illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN. The stated deadline is October 19, 2027, at 10:59 p.m. PDT, so this is not a ten-day streak that must begin with Dual Fusion.

The announcement separates ordinary Pika Pika! Pikachu packs from a special pack ex obtained through the login event. The latter guarantees either a two-star card or a Shiny Pikachu ex. Do not transfer that guarantee to every pack with Pikachu on it; read the exact pack label and reward description.

Claim rewards before their deadlines

Completing a mission and claiming its reward are separate actions. Pokémon Support warns that unclaimed mission rewards become unavailable when their availability period ends. Items waiting in Gifts can also carry their own expiry notices. Check both locations, including those notices, rather than assuming logging in has collected everything.

The in-game date changes at 6 a.m. UTC. That general reset rule does not replace the separately announced Dual Fusion launch at 01:00 UTC. Use the notice for the specific event you are tracking.

A practical first-session checklist

01
Choose one goal Decide whether this session is for battling, a favorite illustration or finishing an older collection. Prioritizing one goal makes it easier to avoid using resources on unrelated rewards.
02
Read the live notices Check the event’s exact name, requirements and end time inside the app. Treat preview announcements as preparation, then use the live notice to resolve any last-minute changes.
03
Review before confirming Read the item and currency before confirming. Treat every exchange as final: do not rely on getting used Poké Gold or other items back after an accidental exchange.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is an iOS and Android app with optional purchases, not a console-streaming subscription. If you are comparing different ways to play on a phone, our Xbox Cloud Playtime explainer covers that separate service’s access and time-pack rules.

What remains unproven

This is a preparation guide based on official announcements, not hands-on testing of Dual Fusion. It does not rank unreleased decks or promise a particular card from random packs. Wait for the live card details and battle results before treating a new strategy as essential.
