Marvel's Wolverine already has Photo Mode on PS5; the October 22, 2026 PlayStation guide is a new explanation of its tools, not the feature's launch. To turn a staged scene into a picture you can keep, use the game's controls first, then PS5 capture and export tools. Here is the workflow, including the phone-download window and USB-drive restriction.

Insomniac's pre-launch feature announcement described Photo Mode as available through the day-one update. It also confirmed Mission Replay and New Game Plus, so returning to the game for photography does not mean a new expansion has arrived. If you are starting from an unpatched disc installation, update the game before looking for features that were added at launch.
Before troubleshooting, check the installed update too. Insomniac's 1.002.000 notes list Photo Mode and interface polish fixes, but do not identify every corrected defect. Its support site currently labels 1.002.001 as the latest update. Neither page establishes that every camera, pose or capture issue is resolved, so do not treat an old workaround as a confirmed requirement.

In the game's Settings, find Shortcuts and assign one D-pad direction to Photo Mode and another to the game-speed toggle. Insomniac lists all four D-pad directions as assignable. Global Game Speed offers 100%, 70%, 50% and 30%; Combat Game Speed separately applies during stealth and active combat. These values mean the percentage of normal speed, not the amount subtracted from it. A useful starting workflow is to slow the action, wait for the movement you want, then enter Photo Mode with the second shortcut. Choose the global setting if you also want slower movement outside combat, rather than assuming the combat-only option changes everything.
For a separate PS5 accessibility comparison, our Saros Zenith explainer covers that game’s control and visibility options.
Five independent lights include sphere and spotlight types. If Character Pose moves Logan, the lights stay centered on where he stood when Photo Mode opened, so readjust them afterward. Tilt handles portrait framing, and the interface can switch sides.

Screenshot settings and video settings are separate. Changing Video Clip Format is not the way to change a still image's file type. Sony also warns that some content cannot be captured, so this workflow is not a promise that every cinematic or protected scene can be saved.
Open Media Gallery from the PS5 games home and use Albums to find captures grouped under Marvel's Wolverine. Open the image full-screen to check the result; mark keepers as Favorites if you are making several variations. Recently created is useful for a quick check, but shows only up to 15 recent captures. For USB export, connect an external storage device, select the capture in Media Gallery, then choose More (...) > Copy to USB Drive. Information also lets you rename the capture, which is useful before collecting several similar shots.
Use a compatible FAT or exFAT USB drive that is not formatted as USB extended storage. A drive you use for game storage is not automatically the right destination for pictures. Sony says captures can be copied out but cannot be copied back into console storage. Prefer an already compatible spare drive; do not reformat a drive containing files you still need just to make one export. Verify the copied image on your computer before removing your console copy.

For the phone route, link your PS5 with PlayStation App. On the console, enable Settings > Captures and Broadcasts > Captures > Auto-Upload. Sony specifies rest mode with Stay Connected to the Internet enabled for automatic uploads. In the app, open Library > Captures, select your picture and choose Download. Captures remain available for 14 days after creation. Enable the feature before taking pictures; older captures are not automatically backfilled. Use USB if an older image is missing.
If your saved composition needs rotating or reframing, open it in Media Gallery and select Edit, then use the screenshot crop tools. You can also add text, although keeping a clean copy gives you more freedom later. To send directly from the console, select a capture, choose Share, select the destination or recipient and press Send. Sony allows up to four screenshots in one share. For several variations, choose the clearest one rather than sending every near-identical frame; check the recipient and any visible story details before confirming.
This workflow is based on official documentation, not hands-on testing. Sony’s guide does not establish the rendering resolution of every Photo Mode image or guarantee that a patch resolves a particular pose problem. Keep an original capture alongside a crop so you can compare them without recreating the scene.
