Minecraft reaches Nintendo Switch 2 from October 27, 2026, but the upgrade offer depends on whether you own the original Switch game digitally or on a card. Check that distinction before paying: the free Standard Edition and discounted Ultimate Collection are different offers.

Mojang’s October 7 announcement makes existing digital Switch ownership the condition for the Standard Edition offer through Nintendo eShop. It runs until the end of January 2027, with discounted Deluxe and Ultimate upgrades also available to digital owners. Japan, Taiwan and Thailand are exceptions to the free price: their announced charges are 100 JPY, 30 NTD and 25 THB respectively. Read the offer attached to your own account, not a screenshot from another country.
Nintendo’s US page gives all owners of the original Switch game, including physical owners, a discounted Ultimate route: launch it on Switch 2 between October 27, 2026 at 9 AM PT and January 31, 2027 at 9 AM PT to receive an in-game invitation. This is an offer window, not a worldwide unlock time.

The US store lists October 27, while Mojang’s Japanese announcement specifies October 28. Nintendo Australia separates physical release on October 27 from digital release on October 28. These local listings are more useful than treating a US date as universal. For Europe or another territory, check the date on the eShop page attached to your account.
If an offer is not visible, first check the version, account and local availability. Do not buy an unrelated edition just to work around a missing discount. Keep the product page and any error wording so support can identify which entitlement you expected. There is no need to delete an installation or save file while investigating a purchase offer.
Nintendo’s US store data checked on October 26 lists regular digital prices of $29.99 for Standard, $39.99 for Deluxe and $49.99 for Ultimate. These are US list prices, not the discounted upgrade amounts or a promise for other currencies. Compare the signed-in offer before checkout.
For an existing player, compare what you already use with the bundle contents before choosing a larger edition. A discount can still cost more than you need to spend. If you are buying for someone else, ask which version and account they use rather than assuming that the biggest bundle solves compatibility or ownership questions.
Mojang’s release announcement says Vibrant Visuals is the default on Switch 2, bringing enhanced lighting and shadows, including an update for the Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. The fine print matters: Vibrant Visuals is unavailable in split-screen and with some Marketplace worlds and content. Do not buy specifically for enhanced couch co-op graphics expecting the promotional appearance in that mode.

This is a different question from testing future Minecraft features. Our Minecraft ice-cave snapshot explainer covers that separate preview. An upgrade purchase should be based on the supported release and features you will actually use, not a test build shown elsewhere.
From October 27, new Minecoins bought in Minecraft on a Nintendo device can be spent only within Nintendo’s ecosystem. New purchases on other devices cannot be used for Nintendo Marketplace purchases. Mojang says coins owned before that date move to a Legacy Wallet: they retain compatible cross-platform use, have no expiry and are spent before the newer balance.
Check supported platforms on a Minecoin card before buying or redeeming it; newer cards may not support Nintendo. The collections’ included currency is also Nintendo-only. A currency balance is not the same thing as a game license or a saved world, so investigate each separately if something appears missing after changing devices.
Nintendo confirms that worlds from the Switch version can carry over, but the checked launch pages do not establish a complete import procedure or a guarantee for beta saves. Keep the original data until you have opened the right world and checked important builds. Do not treat a console transfer or cloud icon as proof that every world has already imported correctly.
Cross-platform multiplayer requires a Microsoft account, and online play requires Nintendo Switch Online. Check both before arranging a session. Neither a more expensive collection nor extra Minecoins substitutes for the account and membership requirements. For a family, confirm which player profile owns the game and which account holds the purchases you want to use.

Download estimates differ: Nintendo’s US page lists 1.2 GB, while its UK listing shows 1.5 GB. Use the current installation screen and leave room for updates and worlds rather than treating either estimate as a universal final requirement. No exact all-region unlock timetable or universal upgrade-discount amount was established in the checked sources.
This guide assembles official information, not hands-on testing. Frame rates, transfer reliability and launch-day online behavior remain untested here. If those determine your purchase, wait for evidence on the version you intend to use. Eligible owners can check their offer without assuming that every reported issue with an older version carries over to this one.
