Pokémon UNITE shutdown: library deadline, gems and account checks

Pokémon UNITE ends service in March 2027. Check the library download deadline, separate gem balances, Japan’s refund notice and final tournament dates.

What stopped on October 27

Aeos gem sales, new UNITE Club memberships and automatic renewals stopped at 05:00 UTC on 27 October 2026. Existing members keep benefits until their current membership period expires. Gems already held remain usable until service ends. This is not an immediate shutdown.

Check your local shutdown date

The cutoff falls on 22 March in the Americas: 5 p.m. PDT in Los Angeles and 8 p.m. EDT in New York. It is midnight GMT in London, 1 a.m. CET in Paris, 4 a.m. in Dubai and 9 a.m. JST in Tokyo on 23 March. These are conversions of the same UTC deadline, not separate regional closures.

Prepare the library download

01
Return after the update Open the library or play normally to download its assets.
02
Finish the download Complete it before shutdown.
03
Protect the installation Library data generally cannot be transferred to a new device. If game or library data is deleted or lost after service ends, it may not be recoverable, because library support ends at closure.

The library includes a Practice Area and owned collections. Held items and boost emblems become view-only; complete upgrades and merges beforehand.

Check both gem balances

Purchased Aeos gems are platform-specific: Switch gems do not appear in the mobile balance, and mobile gems do not appear on Switch. Items obtained by exchanging currency can be shared when both versions use the same save data. A zero balance on one device therefore does not prove that you have no gems elsewhere.

Before making a spending decision, check the version where you originally paid and compare it with your receipt history. If a past mobile purchase is missing, official support recommends restarting with a good connection and checking the App Store or Google Play purchase history. For unresolved purchases, contact support rather than assuming that a balance has transferred. Older troubleshooting instructions suggest buying again; that advice does not override the new sales suspension.

Refund details differ by region

The Japanese official notice sets out a refund process for unused paid gems remaining at service end. Bonus gems supplied with purchases and gems from UNITE Club benefits are excluded. Applications will use a form accessed from inside the game, with detailed instructions to follow after closure. The notice specifically asks affected players not to delete the Switch software or uninstall the mobile app until their refund is complete.

That Japanese-language announcement is not evidence that the same process covers purchases in Europe, the Americas or every Asian market. The English shutdown notice reviewed here does not describe a refund application route. Check your regional notice and account-specific support response before deciding whether to spend or retain a paid balance. Keep receipts and the relevant account details.

Find the right account first

If you are returning on a new device, recover the existing save before creating a new one. Pokémon Support says Switch and mobile can access the same save through the same linked Nintendo Account or Pokémon Trainer Central account. On a fresh mobile setup, select that linked login method at the title screen. Starting without the matching method can prevent the initial setup from synchronising the intended save. Mobile-to-mobile moves can also use previously linked Google or Apple accounts, although Apple requires the new device to be iOS too.

For a move from mobile to Switch, link the appropriate account in the mobile version before first launching the Switch version. The support page warns that an incorrect setup may require a separate Switch user linked to the correct Nintendo Account. These are current online save-access procedures, not a promise that the post-shutdown library will move between devices. If you are unsure which account holds your collection, resolve that now rather than experimenting with deletion.

There is another returning-player trap: Facebook linking and login ended on 30 September 2026. The official notice directs players who already linked another platform to log out at the title screen and sign in with that previously linked method. In an accessible session, Settings then Account Settings shows the login platform. If Facebook was your only route and you can no longer enter, do not assume the library update will restore access; ask support about your specific account.

⚠️
Check before linking
The official account-linking guide says a Pokémon Trainer Central account cannot currently be unlinked from Pokémon UNITE. Confirm that you are using the account associated with your existing progress before linking anything.

Use the farewell event carefully

Unite coins from login bonuses and missions will exchange for returning licenses, Holowear and other items. Inspect the exchange before spending gems.

The final tournament still goes ahead

Aeos Crown 2027 is an open competition for teams that meet their regional eligibility requirements. The announced Tokyo finals run on 20–21 March 2027, with 32 teams and a US$1 million total prize pool including supplementary awards. All-Star Draft applies on each qualifier’s final day and throughout the finals; teams should read the competition rules before choosing their roster.

01
Europe and the Americas Registration runs from 27 October to 5 December for Europe, North America, Latin America North and South, and Brazil. Their listed qualifier dates are 5–6 and 12–13 December.
02
Asia has different windows India, Thailand and Malaysia/Singapore close registration on 2 December; the Philippines on 9 December. Korea and Taiwan/Hong Kong open on 13 November. Japan’s listed registration opens on 11 December. Check the official regional table rather than borrowing another region’s deadline.
03
Watch rather than book a spectator trip The organisers say general-admission spectator seating will not be available at the Tokyo finals. Matches are planned for global streaming, including broadcasts in multiple languages.

What remains unconfirmed

This guide reports announced plans, not hands-on testing of the unreleased library. Its final interface and download size still need checking when the feature arrives. Keep the game installed, make time to inspect the update and save any important support response. A useful personal checklist separates three jobs: account access now, library setup after the update, and any regional refund steps later.

Do not assume every live-service wind-down follows the same rules. Our 2XKO update and offline-play guide covers a different plan for that fighting game; its arrangements should not be applied to Pokémon UNITE.
