Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School launches on November 5, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, taking its escape-room puzzles into an explorable campus. The immediate buying choice is between the base game, subscription access on eligible Xbox services and a Deluxe Edition whose two expansions are still to come. A free Steam demo offers a way to try the opening before making that choice.

November 5 is the launch date confirmed by PlayStation Blog, the Steam announcement and Xbox’s release listings. This pre-release guide was checked on November 2, 2026. The current Steam page still describes the game as coming soon; that label does not contradict its dated launch announcement.
The official sources checked do not establish one global unlock hour or a separate paid early-access window. Players in Europe, the Americas and Asia should therefore use their own platform’s local product page rather than treating November 5 as a promise of midnight access everywhere. If you are arranging an online session across time zones, wait for a confirmed local availability time before setting the invitation.

The US Xbox price difference is $10. The Deluxe listing describes new stories, escape rooms and extra-credit quests in its future expansions, but supplies no release dates for them. Choose it only if those specific additions justify paying ahead; the listing is not evidence that two extra adventures will be playable on launch day.
These are US-dollar Xbox prices, not verified Steam or PlayStation prices and not a currency conversion guide. European and Asian readers should compare the local edition contents and final checkout amount on their own account’s storefront. Do not import the US price difference into a different region or assume an edition with a similar name contains the same extras without checking its product description.
Coin Crew Games describes a shift from the first game’s more linear structure and map navigation to a campus you can explore. PlayStation Blog contrasts the industrial Science Campus and colorful Arts Campus with the Humanities Campus, which offers side quests, landmarks and side escapes outside the main escape rooms. Areas can be visible before they are accessible, so an open campus does not mean every door is available immediately.
The practical distinction is what happens between puzzle rooms: you will have places and optional tasks to investigate instead of only selecting the next escape. The developer says newcomers can start with this sequel, so playing the original is not a prerequisite. That removes a backlog requirement, although it does not tell us how satisfying the new mystery or optional activities will be.
Co-op is for two players, locally or online, while solo play remains an option. In its multiplayer systems devlog, Coin Crew Games describes pings, partner-location visibility and emotes, plus the option to switch the online view between split-screen and widescreen. Players can explore the campus separately but must enter escape rooms together; these systems are intended to help a pair coordinate, not turn the game into a larger-group party title.
For a shared playthrough, agree whether you want to explain discoveries aloud or give each other time to inspect the clues first. Pings can identify an object, but they cannot decide how much help your partner wants. The advertised No-Timer Mode also gives players who dislike countdown pressure an option to consider; its presence is not a substitute for checking the rest of the accessibility settings in the demo or released game.

Xbox Wire includes the game in its November 5 Game Pass releases, and the current Xbox base-game listing names PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate under coming subscriptions. Check the tier and device attached to your account before buying a separate copy. Do not assume every Game Pass tier grants the same catalog access merely because the game carries a Game Pass label.
The Season Pass bundled with Deluxe is a different purchase from Game Pass: it describes additional game content, not a subscription library. Neither the base-game subscription listing nor the Deluxe description establishes that those expansions are included with subscription access. Xbox also lists a qualifying subscription requirement for online console multiplayer; that requirement is distinct from whether your membership supplies the base game.
No verified timed preorder reward or advance-play benefit is established by the sources used here. There is therefore no confirmed bonus in this guide that requires you to pay before reviews or launch-day checks. If a local storefront adds an offer, read its eligibility and deadline rather than assuming the animal masks are a limited preorder reward.
The free Steam demo covers the first chapter, including introductory puzzles, campus exploration, extra-credit activities and a Clocktower challenge. It supports solo play and local or online co-op, making it useful for checking your actual two-person setup rather than only watching a trailer.
An October 16 developer update removed the demo’s end-of-demo save wipe and said the team expected those saves to remain compatible with release. It also warned that people who played the older demo would need to repeat roughly the opening hour. That is a qualified developer expectation about updated demo saves, not a promise of cross-platform progression; keep the existing save rather than deleting it in preparation for launch.
Demo progress rules are game-specific: the separate Pikmin 4 Switch 2 demo guide covers another recent example where the exact version matters. Here, the useful distinction is whether you played before or after the save-wipe change. Update the demo before continuing, and avoid moving or replacing save files on the assumption that all editions share them.
The Windows specifications come from the developer’s October 13 announcement and the current full-game Steam listing. These are component requirements, not a stated resolution or frame-rate target. Check the full game rather than accidentally comparing your machine against the separate demo’s requirements, and do not treat 5 GB of required free space as a verified download size.
Steam also lists SteamOS 3, an AMD Zen 2 processor and RDNA 2 graphics under Linux requirements. That is not, by itself, a Steam Deck Verified rating or a performance guarantee for every handheld. The listing includes interface and subtitle support for English, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Latin American Spanish, with full audio listed only for English; check the language mix you actually need for reading clues.

Start with the machine both players will use. The confirmed console versions are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; do not buy for an older console on the strength of a franchise search result. On PC, confirm your chosen storefront and operating system, then compare the edition contents rather than selecting Deluxe solely because it sounds more complete.
For friends on different ecosystems, do not treat the Xbox cross-platform co-op badge as proof of every possible Steam, Xbox and PlayStation pairing. The checked sources do not provide a complete compatibility matrix or establish a free friend-pass entitlement. Confirm your exact pairing and each person’s access before buying two copies or planning a cross-platform evening.
The base game is the clearest starting point for players who want a solo or two-person puzzle adventure without paying for undated expansions. Eligible subscribers should first check their existing access, while PC players can use the updated demo to evaluate controls, clue readability and how they work together. Deluxe is easier to justify for someone who already wants the future content than for a newcomer still deciding whether the format suits them.
The appealing change is a campus with activities between escape rooms, supported by more ways for partners to communicate. Whether that produces stronger puzzles, a well-paced campaign and reliable online sessions remains a launch question. This guide is based on official announcements and listings, with no hands-on testing; wait for performance evidence if smooth operation on your particular hardware is the deciding factor.
