Pikmin 4’s Nintendo Switch 2 demo launches on November 2, 2026, ahead of the full Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy on November 12. It offers the opening area and a sample of the new timed challenges. For existing players, the useful distinction is between trying the new mode and buying the base adventure again.

Nintendo’s Pikmin Day presentation identifies Sun-Speckled Terrace as the playable opening area, alongside two Dandori Academy stages. The academy turns efficient treasure collection into a timed challenge: deciding which Pikmin to send, choosing a route and finding shortcuts are the point. It is a useful way to assess whether you enjoy planning and improving a run, rather than only exploring the main adventure.
The Japanese November 2 announcement confirms that the opening-area trial runs until you collect 1,500 Sparklium. It also includes an introductory academy stage. Nintendo’s English presentation gives the same November 2 demo date, but does not establish one global download hour. Players in Europe, the Americas and Asia should check their own Nintendo eShop for the new Switch 2 edition’s demo rather than assume another region’s availability applies immediately.

Nintendo says the demo save can carry into the full release. For someone who has already played Pikmin 4 and then tries the academy demo, however, only the Dandori Academy save data is newly carried over. Do not read that as an instruction to replace an existing campaign save or assume that every older demo and every account share one progression file.
Use the profile you intend to keep playing with, note which version you downloaded and read the import prompt before accepting it. If you are moving consoles as well as upgrading the game, deal with your existing save transfer first rather than deleting data to make room. The trial is a chance to learn the new mode; there is no need to risk a campaign you already value.
The Direct explains a practice-and-exam rhythm: prepare a route, then make your timed attempt and earn a medal based on the result. Regular exams run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the UK product page specifying one attempt per week. Treat practice as the place to experiment with routes rather than assuming you can restart a scored attempt until everything goes perfectly.
Nintendo’s Japanese notice confirms that demo users can also take exams on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from the weekend after the full edition releases, and it adds a special opportunity on Thursday, November 12; practice remains available at other times. Neither Nintendo nor the Pikmin Bloom campaign page provides a worldwide reset-hour table, so check the in-game schedule before coordinating an attempt across time zones.

For existing owners, the trial is especially useful because it separates interest in the new challenges from the cost of buying the adventure again. Compare the upgrade’s contents with what you actually want. A prominent “starting from” price on a store page may refer to an upgrade, so it should not become your assumed price for the complete package.
The full edition also supports GameShare for Dandori Battles. Nintendo’s US listing says a Switch 2 must host the session, and recipients can play the shared software only while that session lasts. Online sharing through GameChat requires Switch 2 and GameChat for each participant, plus the stated Nintendo Account, internet and Nintendo Switch Online requirements. That does not make the entire campaign a permanently shared copy.
Do not confuse competitive Dandori Battles with the academy’s timed exams, or assume that a full-edition feature list describes everything available in the demo. For another example of why demo and sharing rules must be checked separately, our Haunted Paws demo and GameShare guide explains the distinction for a different Switch 2 game.

Pikmin Bloom offers separate demo-completion and exam-linked rewards. Its official campaign page says the demo’s eligible courses are Elementary A “Mushroom Mash” and Elementary B “Treat Transport”; practicing alone does not meet the exam-linked reward requirement. The Nintendo Account used for Pikmin 4 must match the one linked to Pikmin Bloom, and demo rewards cannot be claimed again if you already received the equivalent full-game rewards.
Read the game’s data-sharing prompt and the campaign’s eligibility rules before opting in. A reward attached to an exam is not a reason to rush an unfamiliar course: use the practice sessions first, then decide whether the extra mobile-game item matters to you.
This explainer is based on Nintendo’s announcements and product pages, not hands-on testing. The demo can help you judge controls and the challenge structure on your own setup, but it cannot establish the full edition’s long-term variety. Nintendo says 72 academy stages will arrive over time, so do not assume every planned stage is present on November 12.
