Moadra release guide: demo saves, prices and PC requirements

Moadra is a single-player science-fiction Metroidvania from Gloomsoft, released on 22 October 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The most useful buying option is its updated Steam demo: progress carries into the full game, so you can try it without starting over after purchase.

Release date and regional unlocks

Gloomsoft’s Steam announcement set launch for 22 October at 12:00 AM PDT, equivalent to 07:00 UTC and 11:00 UAE time that day. Its subsequent available-now post confirms the PC release. These times describe the Steam announcement, not a simultaneous worldwide console unlock.

Regional console listings do not all use the same date. The German Xbox Store shows 21 October, while Xbox Wire’s weekly release schedule names 22 October. This discrepancy does not establish a paid early-access window, and there is no verified reason to treat the earlier date as an extra entitlement.

PlayStation’s US listing gives 22 October; the Italian listing gives 21 October. Neither page states an unlock time. Check the purchase or download state in your own account’s regional store rather than assuming a search result’s label is current.

What you do in Moadra

You play an alien soldier investigating a Neera expedition on Protea VI. The developer describes an interconnected world with nonlinear exploration, light puzzles and concealed routes. Locations include frozen ridges, caverns, ruins and a research facility; the appeal is uncovering a hostile place rather than following a straight sequence of levels.

Combat centres on ranged weapons, evasive movement and large, multi-stage bosses. Rolling, dodging and wall-jumping are part of the movement toolkit. A scanner reveals information and hidden passages, while Protoplasm collected from defeated organisms fuels weapon and ability evolution in organic chambers. Exploration and character development are therefore closely connected.

Test aiming, movement and map reading before committing. If the basic actions frustrate you, a longer campaign may not fix the mismatch. Consider whether you enjoy investigating blocked routes and looking for alternatives, rather than simply reaching the next fight.

Demo, early access and subscriptions

The 21 October demo update added localisations, control rebinding and a scan logbook. Demo achievements are stored locally and unlock on your Steam account after you buy and launch the full game. Keep the current demo installation and save data until you have checked that your progress appears. The announcement also confirms Steam Deck Verified status.

No paid early-access offer, pre-order bonus or launch subscription inclusion was verified in the sources checked. Do not read an Xbox Play Anywhere badge as a Game Pass badge: one concerns where an eligible purchase works, while the other would need its own inclusion confirmation. Check your subscription library before paying.

Nintendo’s listing shows cloud-save support under Nintendo Switch Online, the membership that provides that backup feature. That is not a statement that the game itself comes with the subscription. The same page lists one-player TV, tabletop and handheld play.

Storage and PC requirements

The listed PC requirements do not specify a resolution or frame-rate target. Do not turn “recommended” into a promise of a particular frame rate, especially on a laptop with a similarly named GPU. Use the demo on your intended hardware and check the scenes that feel busiest, not just the opening menu.

Nintendo’s Brazilian page lists 3.5 GB for both Switch and Switch 2. Those are platform-specific file figures, not substitutes for the PC storage requirement. No verified PS5 or Xbox install figure or separate preload schedule is supplied here. Leave room for installation and updates.

Steam lists a third-party EULA. Its requirements do not state TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot checks; that omission should not be read as a universal technical guarantee. No additional launcher requirement was verified. Steam lists Windows requirements, not a native Mac or Linux version.

Before you buy

Xbox Play Anywhere can change the value calculation if you use both a console and a Windows PC. Microsoft says eligible digital purchases through the Xbox or Windows stores work on supported devices without buying again. Sign in with the same Microsoft account; saves, achievements and eligible add-ons follow you within that system.

This entitlement does not grant a Steam copy. Microsoft also limits simultaneous sign-in to the same game across those devices. Decide which PC library you want before paying, especially if you already started the Steam demo. PS5 buyers with specific control or comfort needs should open the accessibility details, not rely on the feature count. The listing includes camera-comfort options, separate audio-volume controls, basic remapping, stick adjustments and offline pausing. “Basic” subtitles cover the main story and characters; that is narrower than promising captions for every sound.

If you buy directly through Steam, Valve’s standard refund policy covers requests within 14 days of purchase with under two hours played. Requests outside those limits can still be reviewed. Steam does not refund purchases made elsewhere, including third-party keys, so check the seller’s terms before paying. A demo is the cleaner first test when you are undecided.

Worth buying at launch?

Moadra is worth investigating if you want solitary exploration and deliberate mastery of movement and combat. Its listed systems support that recommendation; they do not establish campaign quality, how satisfying later upgrades become or how repetitive backtracking feels. We have not played the finished game.

Start with the demo if PC is your preferred platform. Wait for version-specific performance reports if stable frame pacing, handheld battery life or a particular accessibility option is essential to you. A small discount is poor compensation for buying the wrong version, and no reliable completion-time estimate is offered here.
