The Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 launched on 29 October 2026, but it does not include a Zelda game. Before choosing an imported console, check the model: the Japanese anniversary edition uses Nintendo’s Japanese-Language System, with account and language restrictions that matter more than the colour scheme.

The commemorative design combines a black-and-gold dock with green-and-gold Joy-Con 2 controllers and matching console decoration. Nintendo presents familiar Switch 2 features, not an anniversary-specific performance upgrade.
Nintendo’s US store lists the anniversary console at US$519.99 MSRP. The Japanese model is ¥62,980 including tax. Nintendo’s UK hardware page also confirms the 29 October release, but a verified UK or euro console price was not available for this article. Use the price shown for your own country rather than converting another market’s figure.
The UK package includes Joy-Con 2 controllers, straps, dock, grip, power adapter and HDMI cable. The themed Pro Controller and case are separate. Budget for your chosen game as well.
Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 separately for 5 November 2026. The console’s anniversary branding is not a download entitlement to that game. Someone buying a present should write down both product names and check whether the order contains hardware alone or hardware plus a separately purchased game.
Nintendo’s Japan-only model explanation says the system interface supports Japanese only and can link only Nintendo Accounts set to Japan. Its eShop serves the Japanese market. These restrictions belong to that model; they do not describe every Switch 2 worldwide.
Some games offer their own language setting, so the interface restriction does not make every game Japanese-only. It still should not be treated as an English-language console. If keeping your non-Japan account matters, choose hardware that supports it rather than expecting setup to remove the restriction.
Nintendo’s Japanese support guidance on overseas use is reported to ask owners not to use the Japan-only system overseas, and to exclude faults or damage arising from overseas use from its warranty and repair service. Read those terms before importing; a lower advertised price should not be assumed to include the same support as a local purchase.

US accessory prices are US$99.99 for the Pro Controller, US$109.99 with its display stand, and US$39.99 for the carrying case and screen protector. Compare the exact item before paying.
If you already own a Switch 2, decide whether you need another controller or simply want the matching design. For a new owner, first check what the chosen game needs and what the console box already supplies. A coordinated collection is optional; it is not a requirement for playing Zelda games.

Nintendo’s system-transfer guidance covers moving from a Nintendo Switch or another Switch 2 during the new console’s initial setup. Local transfer is recommended when both consoles are available, but it can remove source saves for unlinked users or games without cloud-save support. Read the deletion notices with everyone who shares the console.
The alternative server upload is intended for situations such as a trade-in: it resets the source console after upload, and the stored transfer has a download deadline. Digital software downloads follow the transfer and need internet access. If setup is already complete, consult separate save-transfer or supported cloud-backup options before considering a reset.
Storage is another separate decision. Switch 2 uses microSD Express for expandable game storage. An ordinary microSD card from the original Switch cannot serve that purpose, although its captured screenshots and videos can be imported. Game saves remain in system memory, so moving a memory card is not a substitute for transferring saves.
Check games individually as well as the hardware. For example, the Minecraft Switch 2 upgrade guide explains that game’s own ownership and upgrade checks. A new console and a new edition of a game are separate purchases or entitlements; inspect both before buying twice.
Before paying, keep the exact model name, included-items list and order confirmation together. If a seller describes the package differently from Nintendo’s regional listing, ask which item is actually being supplied. Resolve that mismatch before arranging a trade-in or giving away your current console.
This is a comparison of official product and support information, not a hands-on review. It does not establish long-term finish durability, how the colours look under your lighting, or future restock dates. Stock in one country is not evidence of stock in another. If the correct regional model is unavailable, waiting is safer than compromising on the account compatibility you need.
